Leopard gecko is a type of gecko found in Pakistan, India and Iran. This gecko is an ornamental animal and is a popular pet because of its beautiful body color and easy maintenance. 

Leopard Gecko is one of the biggest geckos among its class. Female geckos are between 18 and 20 cm long and weigh between 50 and 70 grams, while male geckos are larger, between 20 and 28 cm long and between 60 and 80 grams. 




Description


Leopard gecko has a tail-shaped tail. The skin is rough and mottled with a pale yellow or lemon yellow body base and is decorated with large irregular black spots all over its body (except the lower body with paler or no spots at all) from head to tail. His eyes are deep black. The basic color of the body can vary from yellow, brownish yellow, light brown, orange, or reddish, while the spots are usually only black or dark brown. 

Distribution and Habitat 

Leopard geckos are scattered in the lowlands ranging from eastern and southeastern Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, to northwestern India. The natural habitat of these geckos is rocky areas, grasslands, and sandy areas. 

Behavior and food 

Leopard geckos are active at night. In cool regions, these geckos become inactive in the winter. They choose to hibernate in the nest. Geckos that are kept are usually active when only needing food and resting more. His favorite food is small insects such as ants, cockroaches, beetles, grasshoppers, and larvae. This gecko also likes worms. Pet geckos prefer to eat live food, even though most owners give food that is already dead.

Reproduction 

Leopard geckos reproduce by laying eggs. The number of eggs that can be produced between 12 to 16 eggs that stick together. The eggs will hatch after 45 days incubating. The sex of the young gecko is largely determined by the temperature around it. The results showed that eggs stored in a room with temperatures between 26 - 29 ° C would produce female geckos. Meanwhile, for eggs that are stored in a room with high temperatures, ie between 31 - 33 ° C, will produce male geckos.
